GENESIS
David Brady

HIGH ENERGY CONSTRUCTS celebrates its two year anniversary, presenting David Brady’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, GENESIS. David Brady explores what it means to be human, creating work that stresses the equivocacy of life. Within the multitude of material and methodology, Brady’s oeuvre suggests narratives comprised by an eccentric, seductive visual language, and meticulous craftsmanship – the resulting effort abandons typical conformity and emphasizes the aesthetic qualities of form and symbolism. For GENESIS, Brady presents work steeped in a rich base of ideas and beliefs about creation and existence. Custom wallpaper, bullet proof glass, industrial grade tow chain, acrylic finger nail tips, manmade crystals, and computer generated models fill the gallery space. The multi-disciplinary, disparate display balances cerebral formalism with sentiment. In particular, Gustave Courbet’s “L’Origine du monde” becomes an obsessive entry point for Brady’s evolving speculation, reinterpreting the 19th Century painting into a continual study for wallpaper. Over the course of six years Brady has worked on this idea of wallpaper, drawn from the internet pornography pool and reduced into infinite decorative patterns. Brady exposes a new world through the repurposing of media, content, reference, and the marriage of public and domestic relationships.

About the artist: David Brady is a Los Angeles-based artist working primarily as a sculptor. Born in 1978, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, David was HIGH ENERGY CONSTRUCTS’ inaugural artist with his solo exhibition “Max Jewel,” in February 2006.
